Building lease terminations in Northeast Florida, Southeast Georgia among those listed under ‘savings’ on DOGE website

Website claims that over $4 million of savings generated by cancellations of leases in St. Augustine, Jacksonville, Brunswick

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Department of Government Efficiency, better known as DOGE, aims to cut $1 trillion in federal spending by the end of the fiscal year, according to NPR.

On DOGE’s website, it appears that some of those savings could come from cuts in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia as multiple agencies in our viewing area are listed underneath real estate terminations, for having their office leases cut.

Underneath the “Real Estate” section of DOGE’s “Savings” category on its website, three agencies in Jacksonville, one in St. Augustine, and another in Brunswick are listed.

Below is a breakdown of the savings listed on DOGE.gov

  • DEFENSE CONTRACT MANAGEMENT AGENCY, St. Augustine, FL (Cancellation expected to save around $79,000 per year)
  • DEFENSE COUNTERINTELLIGENCE AND SECURITY, Jacksonville, FL (Cancellation expected to save around $28,000 per year)
  • CORPS OF ENGINEERS, CIVIL, Jacksonville, FL (Cancellation expected to save around $4 million)
  • RAILROAD RETIREMENT BOARD, Jacksonville, FL (Cancellation expected to save around $56,000)
  • SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION, Brunswick, GA (Cancellation expected to save around $215,000)

News4JAX contacted all five organizations to get comment on being listed under the terminated section and are still waiting for a response.

Earlier this week, Sen. Jon Ossoff of Georgia spoke out against the DOGE terminations of social security offices in his state, warning the Trump administration that it is risking seniors’ access to Social Security.

All of that comes as this week, News4JAX told you about a federal building downtown that was listed on the General Services Administration website as a property to close or sell; however, the next morning, the list was no longer visible.

News4JAX also reported that councilman Ron Salem is expected to hold a meeting Tuesday to discuss cost-saving efforts he’s referring to as “Duval DOGE.”

News4Jax reached out to State Representative Dean Black for comment on the story, he said:

The biggest impact on Northeast Florida is not the cancellation of any particular leases. The biggest impact is the same as the impact that it will have for taxpayers all across the nation. Just like the rest of America, citizens of Northeast Florida are going to have fraud, waste, and abuse of their tax dollars reined in. The fraud waste and abuse must stop. Under the Department of Government Efficiency and the Trump Administration, that is about to happen.

News4JAX also reached out to Daniel Henry with Duval Dems, who said:

The abrupt decision by DOGE to terminate these leases is yet another example of the sheer chaos and short-sighted governance we’ve come to expect from this administration. Musk’s rash decisions don’t just impact the federal workers—they send shockwaves through our local economy, particularly in downtown Jacksonville.

Instead of a strategic, well-planned approach to saving taxpayer dollars, we’re seeing disruption, uncertainty, and a disregard for the communities affected. Jacksonville deserves better.
