At Defenders of Government Efficiency (DOGE), we’ve always believed that when local residents are informed, they’re empowered—and when media partners join the effort, the impact multiplies.
So today we’re sending a big, hearty thank you to local blogger Dave Scott. His recent post, “Lawsuits & Elected Officials Cause Local Economic Chaos”, helped shine the spotlight on what we’ve been tracking: sky-rocketing impact fees, ballooning housing costs and government decisions squeezing working families in our community.
Thanks to Dave’s willingness to dig in and connect the dots (and link back to our article), more people in Fernandina Beach and beyond have seen the trail of fees and spending that’s quietly becoming a housing barrier. That kind of exposure matters.
When you think about it:
- A homebuyer is hit with tens of thousands in fees before a hammer even swings.
- A city and county that say they want growth, yet the fee structure shuts down builders and sidelines middle-class folks.
- A local government claiming transparency and fairness—but the paperwork, the numbers and the real‐life outcomes suggest otherwise.
Dave’s work helped bring that conversation into the daylight. And when you shine light on things, change can follow.
So again: thank you, Dave. Thanks for doing what citizen journalists and watchdogs do best—asking the questions others won’t, connecting the financial dots, and helping residents grasp what’s at stake.
