NassauFLDOGE is pleased to recognize Andre Desilet, City Engineer for Fernandina Beach, for a job exceptionally well done.
Rather than following the common practice of hiring an outside consulting firm — often at a cost well into six figures — Mr. Desilet took on the challenge himself and designed 3,300 feet of sewer force main in the center of Amelia Island. His decision to complete the design in-house meant the City avoided substantial consultant fees, saving taxpayers a considerable amount of money.
The construction contract for the project is expected to come in at around $250,000. This outcome underscores the value of thoughtful, efficient leadership. By keeping the work local and under direct management, Mr. Desilet not only delivered a cost-effective solution but also ensured the project moved forward more quickly than a consultant-driven effort typically would.
At NassauFLDOGE, we recently brought attention to the County’s growing reliance on expensive outside consultants — a practice that has cost taxpayers millions. So this Kudos to the City of Fernandina’s Andre Desilet is a joy to write about.
NassauFLDOGE commends Mr. Desilet for his professionalism, initiative, and commitment to fiscal responsibility. His efforts serve as an excellent example of how government can operate efficiently while providing essential services to residents.
