Twenty-five Flock cameras have reportedly been placed around Yulee, raising legitimate concerns about privacy, government surveillance, cost, data retention, and who has access to the information collected.

County Manager Taco Pope dismissed those concerns by saying that law-abiding citizens have “absolutely nothing to worry about” and that only criminals should be nervous.

But efficient government does not mean citizens must surrender their personal privacy or blindly trust that powerful surveillance technology will never be misused.
